Last season, the Dallas Mavericks were just three wins away from securing their second NBA championship after a hard-fought Finals series against Boston. With their sights set on another NBA Finals appearance, the Mavs spent the offseason strengthening their roster.

One of the most talked-about moves by Dallas was the addition of former Golden State Warriors player Klay Thompson. Although Thompson is no longer the player he was in his prime, his experience as a four-time NBA champion makes him a valuable piece for the Mavericks. Adding Thompson to join Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving formed what is now known as Dallas’ “Big 3.” Despite some doubts from experts about Thompson’s performance, Dončić and Irving have made it clear that they have complete trust in their new teammate.

Klay Thompson: A Quiet Resurgence

Meanwhile, Klay Thompson has found a new opportunity to revitalize his career in Dallas. Through the first 11 games of the season, Thompson has scored more than 16 points five times and has hit multiple three-pointers in all but three games. In his return to San Francisco, where he spent years with the Warriors, Thompson scored a season-high 22 points, including six three-pointers. While his performance was overshadowed by the late-game heroics of his former teammate Steph Curry, Thompson and the Mavericks have plenty of reasons to feel optimistic about the veteran guard’s play so far.

Can They Return to the Finals Again Against a Strong Western Conference?

Although it’s still early in the season, NBA ODDS are already reflecting the Mavericks’ potential to be serious contenders for the Western Conference title. If the Dončić, Irving, and Thompson “Big 3” continues to evolve and play at a high level, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Mavs fighting for the championship once again in the playoffs.

The team has shown the right mix of offensive talent and experience on the court. NBA ODDS currently show that Dallas has competitive chances in their conference, and if the players continue to demonstrate their chemistry, this could be the year the Mavericks finally return to the NBA Finals.
