Ryan Kelly and Will Fries were signed away from Indianapolis, and Donovan Jackson was added in the first round. 

With those moves, O’Connell believes he now has the best offensive line in football. That confidence is critical because it allows Minnesota to unleash Jefferson and Hockenson in the passing game fully.

Jefferson is the focal point, and his matchup against Jaylon Johnson looms large. Johnson, nursing an injury, may not be at full strength, creating a potential mismatch in Minnesota’s favor. Even if Johnson suits up, Jefferson has proven capable of thriving against top-tier corners. With Jordan Addison suspended, Adam Thielen slides into a bigger role in the slot, offering McCarthy a dependable veteran. 

Hockenson, meanwhile, is fully healthy after dealing with injuries last season and will be a constant threat across the middle.

The biggest question mark is McCarthy himself. The rookie quarterback enters with expectations, but also the security of O’Connell’s track record. The head coach has a history of maximizing quarterback play, coaxing career-best years out of Kirk Cousins and finding ways to make Nick Mullens and Joshua Dobbs competitive starters. 

McCarthy won’t be asked to do everything on his own; his job will be to distribute efficiently and avoid turnovers. Given O’Connell’s system and the offensive line overhaul, Minnesota’s rookie is positioned to succeed early.
