Jake Browning is expected to start at quarterback. 

Browning threw for 1,936 yards with a 12-to-7 touchdown-to-interception ratio in 2023 and completed 70.4 percent of his passes while filling in for Burrow. Behind him, Desmond Ridder and rookie Payton Thorne round out the depth chart.

The Bengals made a few offseason additions that could factor into Thursday’s game. Running back Samaje Perine returned to the team, while defensive linemen T.J. Slaton and Shemar Stewart were signed to improve a defense that finished 25th in points allowed per game (25.5) and 25th in total yards allowed (348.3) last season.

Offensively, Cincinnati averaged 27.8 points per game (seventh in the NFL) and 365.5 yards per game (ninth). They have the firepower to outscore any opponent, but Thursday’s focus will be on depth evaluation and schematic execution.

The injury report includes tight end Erick All Jr., who is out with a knee injury. Several other contributors are questionable, including defensive tackle B.J. Hill (foot), guard Lucas Patrick (leg), cornerback Marco Wilson (undisclosed), and defensive end Cedric Johnson (foot).

 

Eagles Begin Super Bowl Title Defense

 

The Eagles are fresh off a 2024-25 Super Bowl victory and enter Thursday’s preseason opener with confidence and continuity. Priced at +700 to repeat as champions and -130 to win the NFC East, Philadelphia remains a dominant force. They are also heavy favorites to make the playoffs at -400. 

Head coach Nick Sirianni is back for another campaign, now joined by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and newly promoted offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, who takes over for Kellen Moore.

While Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, A.J. Brown, and Dallas Goedert headline one of the league’s best offenses, the stars will likely rest in favor of the second and third units. Tanner McKee, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Kyle McCord will share quarterback duties. 

McKee went 30-of-45 for 323 yards and four touchdowns last preseason, and McCord was selected in the sixth round of the most recent NFL Draft out of Syracuse.

Philadelphia’s offense ranked fifth in points per game (29.0) and eighth in total yards (366.0) last season. On defense, they led the NFL in both points allowed per game (18.1) and total yards allowed (288.6), thanks to an aggressive scheme that forced turnovers and limited big plays.

Injuries could impact Thursday’s depth chart. Linebacker Nakobe Dean (knee) is out, while several key contributors are listed as questionable: guard Kenyon Green (knee), defensive tackle Jalen Carter (shoulder), linebacker Zack Braun (back), wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. (knee), cornerback Mac McWilliams (undisclosed), running back Montrell Johnson Jr. (hamstring), long snapper Charley Hughlett (neck), safety Lewis Cine (hamstring), guard Trevor Keegan (back), wide receiver A.J. Green (hamstring), defensive tackle Byron Young (arm), and linebacker Nolan Smith Jr. (concussion).

 

Betting Recommendation

 

Cincinnati enters this contest as 5.5-point road favorites. While the NFL preseason odds to bet can be unpredictable, several angles make the Bengals a strong play in this spot. Combined with Fangio’s disciplined defensive approach and Browning’s efficient, clock-controlling style, the conditions favor a lower-scoring game.
