Belmont Stakes betting tips

Rich Strike is the only horse in this year’s Triple Crown competition who has a chance to win both races. Early Voting, the horse that won the Preakness without running in the Kentucky Derby, will not be in the Belmont field and will instead focus on the Travers Stakes.

However, other talented horses, including several that have previously run in the Derby or Preakness, could prevent Rich Strike from winning the Belmont.

The Kentucky Derby saw Mo Donegal and Barber Road finish fifth and sixth, respectively, narrowly outside the money. They might have a better opportunity at the Belmont, where they have a chance to win.

Only Early Voting and Epicenter finished ahead of Creative Minister in the Preakness, with the latter also finishing second in the Kentucky Derby.

Creative Minister may be one of the leading candidates for the Belmont after their strong performance.

Another logical threat is We the People. He’s a son of Constitution, a two-time Grade 1 winner over 1 1/8 miles who also sired Tiz the Law, the 2020 Belmont winner. We the People has a 3-for-4 record and looked like a star while winning the Peter Pan by 10 1/4 lengths at Belmont last month. We the People brings a lot of tactical speed to the table and shouldn’t be overlooked as a front-runner danger.

Meanwhile, Golden Glider is a live longshot who deserves to be respected. When he finished second in the Peter Pan, he was no match for We the People, but the Peter Pan was held on a sealed track, and We the People escaped with a comfortable lead, so Golden Glider, rallying from middle, didn’t receive the ideal setup.

Golden Glider previously demonstrated tactical speed when finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland, and as a son of 2004 Breeders’ Cup Classic champion Ghostzapper, he has a decent chance to extend beyond 1 1/2 miles. Longshot Peter Pan runner-up Sir Winston upset the 2019 Belmont, and Golden Glider has a chance to do the same. He’s never won a graded stakes race, and he’ll almost certainly start at double-digit odds, so he matches the profile of a tempting longshot wager.
