The Uriah St. Lewis trainee posted a career-best speed figure, winning an allowance at Parx last out, and the Vino Rosso filly showed real determination in that effort. The problem is consistency has never been her strong suit, and this is a significant class hike from allowance company at Parx to graded stakes at Pimlico on Preakness weekend. Mychel Sanchez picks up the mount. She’s not impossible, but she’s the kind of price horse you use deep in a superfecta at a big number, not the horse you build your ticket around.

#5 Braken Poppa (7-2)

Four-for-four in route races lifetime, including back-to-back stakes scores heading into this spot. That record demands respect. The Steve Asmussen trainee by Aurelius Maximus has the tactical flexibility to press the pace or rate just off it, which gives Jose Ortiz options depending on how the first quarter develops. She comes in with solid recent works and a sharp form cycle, and Asmussen pointing her here after consecutive stakes wins is not an accident. The barn thinks she belongs at this level.
